Compliance Question Of The Week
Compliance Question Of The Week
Question:
If I missed the meeting - or the point - on Tuesday, is there something I should know?
Answer:
Yes - that summer is a very rule-specific timeframe and each and every sport should know its' summer rules. Whether you're a team or individual sport, and whether you're safety exception or not, it's different. And it's different for student-athletes (aka "returners") vs. prospects (aka "incomers", including freshmen AND transfers).
The Rules Ed PowerPoint is available in the compliance office, as is all the documentation from the meeting. Please be especially aware of the attached Summer Registration form which absolutely every prospect here in Bloomington this summer needs to have completed on his or her behalf by you before they participate in any voluntary activity this summer before initial full-time enrollment (i.e. anytime before August 26th, 2010).
We also have a general summary of the rules on the front of the April 2010 Compliance Newsletter, also available.
As always, more information is available if you need it.
Remember that all summer athletically related activity must be voluntary, that walk-ons MUST be actively in summer school before participating in anything, and that there IS a difference between workouts "in the presence of" a strength coach vs. being "actively coached" by one.
