Compliance Question Of The Week
Compliance Question Of The Week
Question 1:
Can you call, label or refer to ANYONE who is not a coach by the name "Coach" anywhere?
Answer 1:
No - make sure to always clarify the roles of all your staff members. This is especially important on our website, on written documents or game programs.
Question 2:
Can coaches "friend" anyone on FaceBook? Follow on Twitter?
Answer 2:
You can only friend on FB when PSAs are old enough for written communication. You can follow anyone on Twitter, but don't Tweet at them!
Question 3:
Can a PSA on a visit try on a generic, not personalized, jersey / uniform shirt? Photo Op?
Answer 3:
Yes, they can. If we take photo, it must be kept in-house and private until NLI signing and we cannot give it to the PSA. If they take it, they should wait till they leave before posting if they must post it.
Question 4:
Can certain incoming PSAs workout on campus in summer?
Answer 4:
YES - under certain conditions. Rules are complex and varied. We covered these last meeting. Ask first!
Question 5:
Do we need to ask compliance about any and all recruiting or scouting service before we subscribe to it?
Answer 5:
Yes. This is getting more intense by the month. Talk to Andy in our office about all such subscriptions.
Question 6:
Regarding the recent NCAA staff interp (3/18/11) which allows for staff members who are not permissible callers to make calls to PSA's academic advisors for academic info only, should these non-coaching staff members be calling HS coaches to obtain transcripts for PSAs?
Answer 6:
No. Non-coaching staff members should only call HS administrators (i.e. registrar, counselor, asst. principal) to get these documents. IU countable coaches may make these calls to HS coaches, but not other IU staff members. (Not until after signing).
Question 7:
Is it OK for coaches to have off-campus, in-person contact with parents of prospects on the day of, and before or during, that PSA's competition?
Answer 7:
Yes - if the prospect is a senior (i.e. normally contactable) AND if you're in a contact period AND only if you count each contact as one of your permissible three contacts. (6 for FB). That means if you go back the next day and do the same thing, that's contact #2 - EVEN if you are only counting it as one evaluation because of the consecutive-days exception for evals. Every day that you have contact with a PSA or his/her parents counts as one of your contacts.... you can contact them a LOT during that whole day, but it counts as 1 contact for each calendar day - no exceptions.
