Compliance Question Of The Week
Compliance Question Of The Week
Question:
It's Camp Time!
Answer:
Q. Can my incoming freshman (August 2011 matriculates) work my camp?
A. NO - and that includes volunteering / appearing at, playing at, etc.
Q. So, can they attend camp as a camper?
A. Yes (other than football). They must pay the same rate and be treated the same way as other campers, but feasibly, they can attend as regular camper. (NOT FB).
Q. Can I employ my neighbor's 16-year old son?
A. No. Prospects cannot work camp.
Q. Can I hold (or go work at) a camp where only the very best are invited? A true Elite Camp?
A. No - camps must be open to all and everyone and you can't hold an true Elite Camp. Or go work at someone else's.
Q. Can I use camps to recruit?
A. Ah ha! A tricky one. Not really, but the very act of coaching and participating in camp is a free evaluation opportunity I guess. You can't have recruiting conversations or unofficial visits or tours and such until the ENTIRE camp has finished and the PSA has made a point to leave campus (cross Dunn St. or bypass!) and return for their visit. That unofficial visit must be documented. Basketballers: remember, no unofficial visits in July...BUT...men's basketball CAN have recruiting conversations (Only - no tours, etc.) during their camps. Wild and crazy, eh?! Also: no testing, filming or measuring for recruiting purposes - must be for camp only.
Q. IS there any paperwork associated with camp?
A. Listen here for one answer, (at 2:08) but basically that's a big YES! Notably, post-camp "settling up" is required, and we're talking about naming names, providing many details, and a full accounting of money.
Q. Are you done yet?
A. Nearly. Look at the attached document for some other reminders; look at the entire Camps and Clinics Guide we issued last month for more, and check here on the U:Drive for lots of info about forms required and camps in general.
