Compliance Question Of The Week
Compliance Question Of The Week
Question:
Camps are here. Anything I need to know?
Answer:
Yes - lots: please refer to the PINK IU Camps and Clinics Guide that we distributed in early April, and also to the e-mail I sent out Wednesday, with a terrific (and colorful) rules attachment. Camps are getting a lot of scrutiny these days, so please keep our compliance eye out when conducting `em.
Question:
I've very much enjoyed watching my team work out at 6 am. And 8 am . And 10 am. etc. Any issues there? (Question came from the SEC).
Answer:
Well, as ALL IU coaches know, you absolutely cannot mandate anyone to either be here or to train right now. And many of you sure can't be watching, peeking at, noticing, asking about, taking pictures of, tweeting on or checking up on your team's activities. Some of you in individual and Safety Exception sports can be present IF your returning student-athletes request it, but otherwise, any incomers have to be in summer school for you to be there. And remember that every incomer has to complete THIS FORM before doing anything.
Question:
My poor athletes have only breadcrumbs to exist on....who will buy milk for the baby?! Are my athletes allowed to work? Can I employ them?
Answer:
Mostly yes - anyone can work at anything, if it really is genuine work and the pay is reasonable (the going-rate) and the work is actually completed. Always keep good records if YOU are the employer, and I advise paying with a check and documenting the work, etc. You do NOT want to be the person who gave a student-athlete money without a VERY good reason. And have them see Kathy about our required SA Employment Form.
