Compliance Question Of The Week
Compliance Question Of The Week
Question:
What are the practice (CARA) rules right now?
Answer:
If you are in-season, it's 20 hours required, no more than 4 on any given day and 1 day off per week is required. If you are OUT of season, then it's only 8 required hours per week right now, with just 2 of those hours being for skill instruction. And, until September 15th, you may only go in groups of 4 max at a time. 2 days off a week is required and you may not publicize your skill instruction sessions.
Question:
Most schools are back in session now: do we have to record our evaluations?
Answer:
YES - now that summer is done, you are back to the "7 max" recruiting opportunities limits and must record these evals and/or contacts on your CyberWeb, Radar or folders. Only seniors can be contacted off campus during a contact period, never before competition and you may have only 3 of your 7 opportunities to recruit as contacts. (FB is a bit different - you get 6 contacts in winter). Know your recruiting rules - or ask! Useful NCAA recruiting rules summaries are on their way to you as we speak - laminated and lovely.
Question:
I have an official visitor coming in today - should I have mentioned this to someone?
Answer:
Absolutely - Anne Rohlman needs you to complete an Official Visit pre-approval form and talk to her about all and any official visits - and this includes ticket requests. We're just 8 days from our first home FB game, so I assume you have your ticket requests in for that game for official and unofficial visitors, right? Good.
Question:
Are we still limited on what we can do with our media guides?
Answer:
Indeed - you still may not provide any sort of printed media guide to prospects, their families or recruits. Please continue to utilize your terrific media relations "Interactive Guides" (which of course will have a compliance page in there...J) and direct your prospects to that guide. You can send them the link, or even send it as an attachment, but you may not put this stuff on a CD or zip drive anymore.
Question:
Can I mail general correspondence to my junior prospects now? The 2013s? What else? Texting back?
Answer:
Yes you can - as of September 1st, you can send mail and e-mail to these prospects. Private E-mail through FaceBook (and such) is OK - but no other use of electronic media is allowed. And no, still no texting allowed...but they're working on it!
Question:
There's a lot of rules and forms and such. Is there any assistance I can get figuring all this out?
Answer:
Of course! Firstly, ALL the forms that we ask coaches and staff to complete are on the U:Drive. It's linked there (if you're logged in at IU right now), but is also available via your network locations on your computers. Go to the "apps" drive (which is called "U") and find the Comply.Frm folder. Within there is everything you ever wanted or needed - well, compliance-wise that is. We are also working on updating the compliance section of the IUHoosiers website with info, policies and rules ed, so feel free to check around that here. Also, Anne is putting out the September Newsletter ANY time now. Read it. And finally, of course, you have the willing and receptive compliance office staff (don't laugh) who are here for you always. Check out the attachment for who we are and what we do and how you can reach us.
