Compliance Question Of The Week
Compliance Question Of The Week
Question:
Tell us a few things about unofficial visits to IU on game day.
Answer:
1. No publicity in any fashion of any prospects visiting campus. Regardless of the medium.
2. If your prospects decide to engage in voluntary, unscheduled recreational activities (which is the only way they can do athletic activity while on campus), then this activity should remain unpublicized and not include any athletics staff or coaches' involvement. [13.11.2.2].
3. You can get a prospect plus two guests (4 under certain circumstances with a nontraditional family) into an IU game - when we charge for admission - assuming space is available. Anne Rohlman in our office needs your complimentary ticket info WELL before the event.
4. Make sure all your visitors have IDs to get into the game and that the prospect is in before the guests. Guests (including parents) without the associated prospect will not get into the game. Please arrive at the comp ticket gate early - it's very busy come gametime.
5. Unofficial visits are UNPAID visits and no benefits may be extended to the prospects, their families or coaches. So, no meals, drinks, equipment, concessions, discounts, free services, etc. The only way any prospect (or his/her entourage) receives anything free or cheap is if everyone else in the stadium is getting it too.
6. You may not go off-campus with any unofficial visitor, and neither can members of your team. If your visitor is a senior, and you are in a contact period, then permissible off-campus recruiters may go off campus with the prospect and count it as a contact. This does not apply to your team! Only way your SAs get to be off-campus with a prospect is if the prospect is on an official visit.
7. You may not have any contact anywhere with any prospect - even one on a visit - who is competing later the same day. So please be fully aware beforehand of the visitor's plans if they leave early or say they have to head home for a game.
8. No Junior College nonqualifier in his/her first year may visit IU and have contact with any staff member. Under certain circumstances we may be able to arrange for a complimentary admission for such an individual - see Anne.
9. Official Visit paperwork is due significantly BEFORE an official visit is scheduled, and the post-visit paperwork is due soon after. Our informative meeting in August no doubt prepared everyone for this. If not, ask....
10. Keep boosters, current team parents and alumni away from your prospects everywhere and anywhere - these people are not permissible recruiters and should not be interacting with your prospects. But do thank them for their interest! ;)
11. And finally, please be sure to document your unofficial visitors using the usual form and keep it on file in your office for our periodic review. If you document your unoffs on CyberWeb (or similar), then please make sure ALL the criteria on the form are addressed and answered.
