Compliance Question Of The Week
Compliance Question Of The Week
Question:
How do I find out about nay new rules proposals that are out there right now? What can we do to affect opinion?
Answer:
The Program-Specific meetings which Jenna (with other assorted compliance staff) schedules with your coaches are the way to get lots of great information about the latest NCAA rule change proposals, both generally and specifically for your sport. Giving Jenna feedback is one way to get your opinion noted, as we will pass that on to higher and higher levels until consensus is formed.
Also:
- Talk to your coaches group and/or NCAA rep within. See what the general feeling is about various props.
- Talk to other coaches within the conference - and/or the Big Ten Conference Rep for your sport.
- Take time to read the full details of each proposal that you like/hate and see why it's in there, who proposed it, etc.
- Ask us.
Question:
Should I be doing anything to document the unofficial visitors who come to IU? How?
Answer:
The answer is an emphatic YES! There is anunofficial visit form on the U:Drive (Word or PDF, latter version attached) which must be completed in full whenever you have an arranged unofficial visitor. Certainly the MINIMUM standard here is if you get a comp ticket into an IU event for them. Also anyone staying overnight, or having a day's prearranged meetings and activities - all those types of unofficial visit needs to be documented. The "whole team comes" visit, the unexpected "pop-in" or the "Can you spare 20 minutes to chat to my son/daughter" don't need the full document, though it wouldn't be a bad housekeeping idea to note that for your own use. Might turn out to be a superstar!
We have already had some sports useCyberWeb for their unofficial visit documentation and that's OK IF the questions addressed on the attached form are covered. We have asked CW to update everyone's unofficial visit tab with all the info, so that should occur soon. Meanwhile, make sure you can address any expenditures or accommodations that occurred around the visit - who paid for who? Who drove? Did they eat? Where? Who paid?
Compliance will be collecting your unofficial visit forms on a bi-annual basis to check them out and cross-check them with ticket requests. Please make sure you are documenting unofficial visits!
