Compliance Question Of The Week
Question:
Can I still make a verbal offer to a junior (or younger) that I am recruiting?
Answer:
For now you can - yes. There is a "could go either way" proposal (2010-42) for a new rule that would make such a verbal offer impermissible until July 1st following a PSAs junior year - and even then, only when the institution has a transcript on file. So, be aware - the Legislative Council meets on January 12 and 13, 2011 and if they vote it in, from that day forward, you'll be bound by the new rule. As of now, you can still make verbal offers - but you may not back it up with anything in writing until August 1st of their senior year. Keep your dates straight.....easy, right?
Also, as Jenna has continued to meet one-on-one with various program staffs throughout the fall, she's been able to share many of the 118+ new proposals which will be considered in January. Hopefully you, as coaches, have good awareness of the new rules which will directly affect all sports, and yours in particular. If not, ask away - or schedule your meeting with Jenna. We have all kinds of resources that can and will help you look at what might be changing. And, like always, our tip-top U:Drive has a folder called "New Legislation". Guess what's in it! Everything.
