Compliance Question Of The Week
Question:
What's going on with the rules changes you told us about in meetings this fall?
Answer:
A large proportion of the legislation which is in the works this year has been marked as "recommended to table" while the Presidential working groups do their thing from their end. Remember that the NCAA has authorized the Presidential Working Groups to make and pass legislation in a flash - none of the usual voting and institutional discussion (though their legislation IS subject to override and the groups have requested ongoing feedback). Anyway, point is....a lot of the things that COULD have passed in a normal year may not pass this January, due to the wider ranging review of the different areas (recruiting, playing and practice seasons, benefits, etc.) So, a lot of it will thus be "tabled" for the future. Whatever DOES pass though, will be brought to you in a flash. That stuff can be reviewedhere should you be so inclined.
Bear in mind though, it is VERY likely that there will be some level of meaningful change for recruiters come some unspecified date in the new year - these changes will include: earlier calling dates (possibly June 15 after sophomore year); ability to text and message privately, and most likely unlimited calls once you get started calling. Be aware: the movement towards "deregulation of recruiting rules" is strong.
