Compliance Question Of The Week
Compliance Question Of The Week
Question:
What type of expenses can I provide during spring break?
Answer:
As always, the answer depends on whether your team is in-season or out-of-season during this week.
For out-of-season teams, you may not provide any per diem for student-athletes to remain on campus, and may not require any practice activities for the duration of the break period (tonight through Sunday, March 18). Pretty easy.
For teams that are still in-season over the break, per diem may be provided for the period of time when the dorms are not open, which starts tonight at 7:00. Dorms and dining halls will reopen Sunday, March 18 at 4:00, at which point student-athletes are no longer eligible to receive per diem. Managers and student assistant coaches are also eligible for per diem expenses.
Additionally, in-season teams may require unlimited CARA beginning tomorrow, through Sunday, March 18. During vacation periods, regular daily and weekly limits do not apply. Similarly, team travel during spring break does not need to conform to the normal NCAA departure and return restrictions. See the attached document for more details on CARA and vacation-period expenses.
