Compliance Question Of The Week
Question:
What happen to the additional Miscellaneous Expense Allowance (MEA) (extra money) students were supposed to get?
Answer:
Currently, this proposal has been tabled by the NCAA. The NCAA is still very much in support of this idea and are looking for a fair and equitable application of the model to put forth to the membership. The Big Ten has been very active in supporting this proposal by supplying several potential models and ideas to the NCAA in an attempt to move this forward. As recently shared at Big Ten compliance meetings, any type of implementation of this rule would not take place until 2013-14 at the earliest. So, we will have more time to understand this, we hope.
Any prospective student-athlete who signed a tender/NLI in November of 2011 that had the MEA listed as part of their tender will be allowed to receive this benefit starting in the fall of 2012
