Compliance Question Of The Week
Compliance Question Of The Week
Question:
What should my incoming student-athlete expect from New Student Orientation?
Answer:
New Student Orientation will be in full swing very soon.
For incoming Freshmen -The first day of New Student Orientation is ON MAIN CAMPUS. This campus orientation will consist of sessions about IU, college success tips as well as general advising information. It is VERY IMPORTANT that the coaches and staff recognize that this is a day for the students to integrate with campus and not a day to schedule athletic physicals or athletic requirements of any kind. We work hard to integrate with campus and we ask that the student's ability to be with the general population is an expectation of all staff members.
The second day, we welcome them into our open arms with a schedule of activities. Below is a skeleton example of what they should expect.
9:00 a.m. Report to the Auditorium located in Memorial Stadium
9:15 a.m. Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator - computer lab Parent Session - Reception Area/Walk & Talk
10:00 a.m. Advising Session with advisor or testing
11:30 a.m. Lunch - The Café located within the Academic Center offers a salad and sandwich selection, otherwise students can have lunch on their own elsewhere if they choose
12:30 p.m. Excellence Academy Overview and Meyers-Briggs Interpretation - Auditorium
1:30 p.m. Advising Session with advisor or testing
3:00 p.m. Campus ID's - they will need to go to Teter.
4:00 p.m. Complete Orientation and depart campus
Transfer Students will have a one day orientation program. They will be on campus in the morning and report to our office at 12:30 for advising.
Please feel free to share this timeline with your incoming athletes. We feel that it is imperative that they attend the entire two days of orientation. This is a great jumping off point and the Office of First Year Experience does an excellent job.
