Cheer Selection Weekend Requirements
You should be "game ready" at all times throughout the entire weekend.
Ladies
• You should have on game make up throughout the selection process.
• You should have hair curled and styled. Pull hair away from ears throughout selections.
• No dark or neon colors. You should wear only natural color nail polish at all times.
Gentlemen
• You must be clean shaven - No facial hair is allowed.
• You should have a clean cut hair style for the selection process.
• No earrings are to be worn at any time.
What To Wear
Ladies – Collared golf type shirt, cheer shorts, white socks, and leather shoes are required. Tee shirts are not acceptable for the selection weekend. Shirts must be tucked in throughout the selection process.
Gentlemen – Collared golf type shirt, gym shorts, white athletic socks, and shoes required. Tee shirts are not acceptable for the selection weekend. Shirts must be tucked in throughout the selection process.
• We are asking that everyone wear red, white, black or gray. Be tasteful in your selections. Wearing other university/college logos is not recommended.
• Tails of the bow should be worn towards the back of the head. Ladies – bows should not be placed on the top or front of your head.
• No hats and no jewelry – this is for ladies and gentlemen. This includes belly piercings.
• Shoes – we do not recommend wearing cheer shoes that were designed for indoor cheerleading. Shoes must be worn at all times during the selection weekend.
Standing Tumbling Expectations
Cream and Crimson Female Candidates: All tumbling needs to be performed without a spotter.
• Day 1 of Selections - Standing tuck - Each candidate is expected to perform this skill• Day 2 of Selections - Additional Standing Tumbling – Back-handspring tucks, Back-handspring full, 2 Back-handspring tuck/full, Standing full, etc.
Cream Male Candidates – Male candidates are encouraged to safely demonstrate a tumbling skill.
• Day 1 of Selections - It is recommended that each candidate perform a standing tuck• Day 2 of Selections - Additional Standing Tumbling – Back-handspring tucks, Back-handspring full, 2 Back-handspring tuck/full, Standing full, etc.
Series Tumbling Expectations
Cream and Crimson Female Candidates: - All tumbling needs to be performed without a spotter.
• Day 1 of Selections - Candidates are expected to perform a round off, back handspring, with an option of a tuck, layout, or full. This will be considered your basic series tumbling requirement.
• Day 2 of Selections - We will ask to see additional tumbling passes on Day 2. You may choose to show your best tumbling skills at this time. We ask that you choose tumbling passes that will make you competitive against the other candidates. These skills must be different than Day 1 skills
Cream Male Candidates - Round off, back handspring, tuck. We encourage all male candidates to perform as much tumbling as possible.
Stunt Expectations
Cream (CoEd) Squad:
Each candidate will be asked to show a minimum of two stunts.
New Members
Day 1 of Selections - Stunt 1: Toss Hands or Bump & Go/Toss Extension
Day 2 of Selections - Stunt 2: Bump & Go or Toss One leg stunt
*If you are going through the Selection Process for the first time and your skill set would match the Returning Members expectations, those skills may be executed during the process.
Returning Members
Day 1 of Selections - Stunt 1: Toss Stretch
Day 2 of Selections - Stunt 2: Toss Stunt (Straight or Full-Up) including a transition
*Multiple body positions are highly encouraged throughout skills portion
Additional Stunting for all candidates:
Coaches will facilitate a controlled time for additional skills to be executed.
Crimson (All-Female) Squad:
We are looking for strength, technique and core awareness in stunting technique from each candidate. We encourage candidates to select/focus on one of the four stunting positions. (Flyer, Main, Side, or Back)
Day 1 of Selections: Stunt may single full down, or double down, but not required
1. Straight Up Stretch or Full Up Stretch
1. Spinning Skill
2. Flipping Skill
3. Inverted Skill
4. Stunt sequence – Two stunts with a transition
Fight Song and School Song
This is required for all candidates. Both the fight song and the school song include a standing tuck and must be performed throughout the season. Both the fight song and the school song include a "two step" for the ladies. Be sure that this is an area of concentration for you while doing motions. Both the fight song and the school song should be able to be performed on both the football field and basketball court.
Sidelines
Candidates may be asked to perform 1-5 of the sidelines required over the selection weekend. Material should be executed in a collegiate manner, conducive to college athletics. Excessive facials, arm waving, and wide motions are not encouraged. Candidates should be prepared to use poms, signs and megaphones during this section of the selection process. This is not required, but we will have all available during the sideline portion. Megaphones are to be used by gentlemen only. Poms are to be used by ladies only.
