Service Learning
The Spirit of Indiana calls us to be a part of something bigger than ourselves. The Excellence Academy helps us do this through its “Hoosier Helping Hoosiers” program focused on three areas:
A student-athlete led sports program. The program offers sports-themed events for athletes with intellectual and physical disabilities, creating a chance for them to interact and learn from current IU student-athletes. This program brings all athletes together through a mutual love for the game and joy of sports.
IUDM Team 24
The IU Athletics Team for IU Dance Marathon. Student-athletes raise money for Riley Children’s Hospital and participate in the IU Dance Marathon.
Coach for College
A global initiative to promote higher education through sports. This three week program is designed specifically for IU student-athletes and other American college athletes to partner with Vietnamese college students as teachers and coaches to teach Sports, Academics, and Life Skills classes and oversee team-based competitions in three-week summer camps held for middle-school students in rural Vietnam. This is an opportunity to immerse, connect, and deeply make a difference in the lives of Vietnamese children. Through the program, American athletes develop the skills needed to be effective global leaders committed to positive social change.
- Hoosier Readers: improving childhood literacy.
- Healthy Hoosiers: encouraging physical activity and healthy nutrition choices with children
- Hoosiers Giving Hope: providing special experiences to Hoosier families facing difficulties and supporting specific causes such as breast cancer awareness and Riley Children’s Hospital.
