Excellence Academy Summer Internship

The Excellence Academy Summer Internship, initiated by Fred Glass, former Athletic Director at IU from 2009 to 2020, is designed to accommodate the demanding schedules of student-athletes. The program's key features include flexible scheduling around classes and sports activities, a paid opportunity where students can earn up to $1,500 over the summer, and the ability to work up to 29 hours per week. This setup also helps student-athletes meet their major’s 150-hour internship requirement before the fall semester starts.
The application process begins in February and ends in mid-March, with interviews held in March. By the end of March, selected applicants are notified via email. Students can apply to various departments within the Excellence Academy, such as Leadership & Life Skills, Career Development, Compliance, Nutrition, Strength & Conditioning, and the Varsity Club. Every applicant is guaranteed an interview, providing valuable experience in career development and the interview process. Approximately 10-11 interns are chosen each summer.
Student-athletes should be sure to talk with their Academic Advisors on any internship requirements for their major. Student-athletes who don't have an internship requirement are also encouraged to apply. Please reach out to Mickaela Zaffino, Asst. Director of Career and Professional Development, at miczaffi@iu.edu with any questions!
