Matt Morrow, who brings significant ties to the Midwest, was announced as Assistant Coach/Hitting & Infield on July 28th, 2026. Morrow will assist head coach Jeff Mercer and assistant coach Zach Weatherford with the development of IU’s offensive system. He will also handle the defensive work of IU’s infielders. Morrow will coach the first base box during games.
Prior to Indiana
A four-year letterwinner for Wright State, Morrow played in 224 games with 214 starts during a brilliant playing career. He recorded 242 hits and scored 201 runs while sporting a career .415 on-base percentage. Morrow was a Freshman All-American in 2015 and a three-time First Team All-Horizon League selection. He advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2018 under the guidance of Jeff Mercer.
Following his time in college, Morrow played two seasons of professional baseball in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization after signing as an undrafted free agent. His collegiate coaching tenure begin as a volunteer assistant at Illinois-Chicago. He made additional stops at Wabash Valley (2023-24), St. Louis (2025) and Kentucky (2026).
Morrow will work directly with IU’s infielders and assist with offensive efforts alongside Mercer and Zach Weatherford. Morrow was a four-year starter at second base for the Raiders and sported a career .981 fielding percentage. He will coach the first base box in games.
During his most recent coaching stint, Morrow served as the Director of Offensive Development with Kentucky. He helped the Wildcats to a spot in the regional final in the 2026 NCAA Morgantown Regional. With his help, Kentucky recorded 110 doubles, 14 triples and 62 home runs. It also stole 131 bases in 157 tries during last year’s campaign.
