• Jim Nelson is in his third season at Indiana as a defensive graduate assistant.

• Spent the 2016 season as a defensive graduate assistant at North Carolina State University after one year in the same capacity at the University of South Florida under Tom Allen, who served as the Bulls defensive coordinator.

• Worked as a defensive graduate assistant at the University of Central Missouri in 2013 and 2014.

• Coached the defensive line at N.C. State, the safeties at USF and the linebackers at Central Missouri.

• A special teams intern at Montana State University in 2012.

• Four-year letterwinner at Drake University, where he was named the 2011 Drake Football Community Service Captain.

• Graduated from Drake with a bachelor of science in business and public administration.

• Earned his master of science in kinesiology from Central Missouri.
