• Noah Joseph is entering his fifth season at Indiana and he oversees the safeties.
• Jonathan Crawford and Chase Dutra earned 2017 honorable mention All-Big Ten recognition. It marked the second straight year the conference recognized Crawford.
• Dutra led the team in tackles (9th in the Big Ten), while Crawford finished fourth with 62 and Tony Fields was fifth with 56. The trio added 9.5 stops for loss, three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles and two interceptions collectively.
• In 2016, Marcelino Ball (75), Crawford (71) and Fields (70) finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively, on the team in tackles and combined for 13 takeaways (7 INTs, 5 FRs and 1 FF).
• A year after Crawford collected 2015 Campus Insiders Freshman All-America honors, Ball was named a 247Sports True Freshman All-American.
• Both players captured B1G All-Freshman team honors from ESPN.com and BTN.com, which lifted Joseph’s all-freshman total to three.
• Crawford topped the Hoosiers with seven takeaways (4 FRs and 3 INTs) and led the league and shared second nationally in fumble recoveries.
• Ball led all Big Ten freshmen in tackles and finished sixth overall, first among conference true freshmen and third among true freshmen nationally with 60 solo stops.
• In 2015, Crawford paced the team with four interceptions, the third-most for a true freshman in program history. He shared third in the B1G and 35th nationally with the four picks and ranked first among all league freshmen and tied for fourth among all freshmen nationally.
• The Largo, Fla., native led Big Ten true freshmen with 76 overall tackles (2nd among all freshmen) and 48 solo stops (1st among all freshmen).
• In Joseph’s first campaign, Dutra collected honorable mention All-Big Ten Freshman honors. He shared the top spot on the team with three INTs (T-9th in the Big Ten).
• Mark Murphy earned his second straight Academic All-America honor, was a National Football Foundation National Scholar-Athlete and a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy.
• Safeties coach and recruiting coordinator in 2012 and 2013 at the University of North Texas.
• North Texas went 9-4 in 2013 with a victory in the Heart of Dallas Bowl. The Mean Green’s nine wins tied for the second-most in program history.
• Coached 2013 All-Conference USA selections Marcus Trice and Lairamie Lee. The safeties had a hand in 15 takeaways, including eight interceptions, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.
• Trice, a first team honoree who signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Chicago Bears, led UNT with five INTs (T-18th nationally), nine pass breakups and three blocked kicks (T-2nd nationally).
• He also finished second on the team with 90 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
• Lee picked off three passes, returned one for a touchdown, forced two fumbles and made two recoveries, and posted 74 stops with four TFLs.
• The Mean Green finished fourth nationally in takeaways (34), eighth in scoring defense (17.8), 15th in rushing defense (120.5) and 17th in total defense (348.3).
• In 2012, Lee (72) and Trice (63) finished as the Mean Green’s fourth and fifth leading tacklers. Trice paced the team with two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in addition to a pair of interceptions.
• Prior to his stint with North Texas, Joseph served as the co-defensive coordinator (2011), secondary coach and recruiting coordinator at Montana State University.
• In 2011, the Bobcats secondary was first in the Big Sky Conference in pass efficiency defense (18th nationally) and pass defense (22nd nationally).
• Montana State finished 27th in the country in total defense and recorded 44 sacks, which led the league and ranked seventh in the nation.
• Helped transition all-conference safety Kevin Retoriano to cornerback during fall camp in 2009, then guided him to a second straight all-conference season. He also assisted Arnold Briggs make a similar move and earn a spot on the All-Big Sky second team.
• In each of his five seasons at Montana State, Joseph mentored a first or second team all-league defensive back.
• Coached at Eastern Illinois University from 2003-06 and produced one of the top passing efficiency defenses in the nation in 2005. He also worked as a graduate assistant at Drake University (2000), Eastern Kentucky University (2001) and Iowa State University (2002).
• A former player at Drake, Joseph earned Academic All-Pioneer Football League honors and was captain of the 1998 team. Joseph holds the school record for the longest interception return (100 yards) at Wayne (Neb.) State in 1997.
• Joseph received his degree from Drake in 1999 and a master’s degree from Iowa State in 2003.
• Noah and his wife, Lyla, have two girls, Lily (11) and Chloe (9).
