Layne played in 50 career games with 38 (13 starts) at cornerback and 12 (12 starts) at safety. He totaled 147 tackles, 114 solo, 3.5 for loss, one interception, seven pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. Layne graduated with a SPEA management degree in Dec. 2020. He became the first Hoosier to wear No. 0.
2021 (Senior): Finished second on the team with 65 tackles and 43 solos (tied) ... added one TFL, one interception, one forced fumble, and one pass breakup ... started all 12 games ... in his first career game at safety, he recorded six stops and the forced fumble at No. 18 Iowa (9/4) ... posted eight tackles, which tied for the team lead, with one for loss and one PBU against No. 8 Cincinnati (9/18) ... picked off the first pass of his career and returned it 23 yards at No. 4 Penn State (10/2) ... paced the team with eight stops at No. 9 Michigan (11/6) ... delivered a career-high and team-best nine tackles, a career-high-tying seven solo, against Rutgers (11/13) ... shared team-high honors with eight stops against Minnesota (11/20).
