Matt Wilson was hired as the assistant athletic director for player personnel by Indiana head football coach Curt Cignetti on Jan. 10, 2024.
Wilson joins the Indiana staff for the second time in his career after one season at NC State as the director of player personnel. The Wolfpack signed a top-30 class (No. 28) in Wilson’s only season on campus after an appearance in the Pop-Tarts Bowl and a top-25 national finish.
He spent two years at Arkansas State (2021-22) where he served as the assistant athletics director for player personnel. Wilson helped A-State ink the best signing class in program history in 2022. That class rated as the No. 1 class in the Sun Belt and top-5 among Group of Five programs. It also ranked among the top-50 nationally on National Signing Day.
Three seasons at Mississippi State (2018-20) as the director of football personnel netted back-to-back top-25 classes for the first time in MSU’s history. His first two classes in the 2018 (No. 25) and 2019 (No. 24) cycles each finished top-25 on National Signing Day.
Thirty-seven of 59 players who signed with the Bulldogs competed within their first two seasons on campus and 14 were starters by the 2020 campaign. The Bulldogs competed in two bowl games during Wilson’s three seasons with the program and went 2-1 against Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl.
Wilson’s previous stop at IU came in 2017 when he helped the Hoosiers sign the third-highest-rated class in program history as the senior director of player personnel/recruiting.
Wilson spent three seasons at his alma mater, Tennessee (2014-16), where he helped sign three consecutive top-15 recruiting classes. The Volunteers won three consecutive bowl games and put together back-to-back nine-win seasons in 2015 and 2016.
Prior to Tennessee, Wilson served as a recruiting aide at UConn (2012- 13) and professional scouting assistant with the Arizona Cardinals (2010-11).
He earned his bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from Arizona State in 2010.
