Brian Barone

Brian Barone is in his second year at Indiana after he joined the staff in late April 2008. He came to IU staff after serving as the coordinator of basketball operations and video coordinator at Marquette under coach Crean.
Prior to his return to Milwaukee, Barone spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Illinois State University. Barone joined the Redbirds after one season (2002-03) at Garden City Community College, working under head coach Earl Diddle.
He also spent one year (2001-02) at Central Florida Community College in Ocala, Fla. He helped guide the Patriots to an overall record of 21-11 and a Mid-Florida Conference Tournament Championship. The squad also advanced to the NJCAA Region VII semifinals.
Playing for his father, Tony Sr., Barone spent his first two collegiate playing seasons at Texas A&M. He was tabbed honorable mention all-conference as a sophomore and received GTE Big XII Academic All-Conference accolades as well.
He transferred to Marquette for his final two seasons, making his debut in 1999-00. That campaign was Crean’s first with the University. Barone served as team captain during his tenure and was also named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team.
Barone earned his bachelor’s degree in communications from Marquette in 2000 and completed his master’s work at MU in the same field in 2002.
He and his wife, Mimi, were married in August 2007. The couple also had their first child, Carson, in April 2009.
