Fort Wayne native J.R. Sims enters his second season with the Hoosiers as a graduate manager. He is pursuing a degree in sports management. Sims comes to IU after playing four seasons at Eastern Michigan University and earning a degree in business/communications.
At EMU, Sims played in 113 career games and averaged 4.5 points. His best year came as a junior when he averaged 5.8 points and led the team in steals. He graduated from Ft. Wayne Snider where he played for his father, Ray. As a senior, he led the team in scoring and led them to the state championship game in Indianapolis where they fell to Bloomington South.
A first-team All-Conference performer, he was voted one of the top 15 seniors in the state by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association. He is the son of Ray and Victoria Sims. His brother, Ryan, is on the staff at IPFW and played at Bowling Green and the University of Indianapolis.
