Played in 25 games off the bench, scoring a total of 11 points and grabbing 15 rebounds ... made his IU debut with six minutes of action against Eastern Illinois ... nailed a 3-point field goal for his first career points against Alcorn State ... played 12 minutes against IPFW and finished with four rebounds and one assist ... drilled a 3-point field goal in the final minute against Illinois, which was the Hoosiers’ 19th 3-point field goal of the game to set a new Big Ten record for most made in a conference game ... scored two points in the win at home against Iowa ... added two more points in eight minutes at Michigan State ... had two assists and two steals in eight minutes at Illinois ... pulled down two rebounds in four minutes of action against Michigan in the Big Ten Tournament. Niego played for Tom Sloan at Lyons Township High School near Chicago … he finished his career as the all-time leader in assists and 3-point field goals and fourth in career scoring (1,388) at the school … for his high school career, he averaged 15.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and four assists per game … connected at a 35 percent clip from the 3-point line and 43 percent overall from the floor for his career … as a senior, he tallied 19.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game while shooting 40 percent from the 3-point line and 46 percent overall from the floor … team posted a 23-6 record and won its first league title since 2011 … named Male Athlete of the Year at Lyons Township following his senior year … earned Chicago Tribune Special Mention All-State … received IBCA All-State Third Team accolades as well as Chicago Sun Time All-Area honors … was named all-conference in addition to the All-Academic team for his conference … averaged 15.6 points per game as a junior to along with 5.1 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game … parents are Joe and Julie Niego.
