Jeremy Wurtzman is entering his 12th season as head coach of the Indiana Men’s Tennis program in 2025-26.
The 2024-25 season featured an 11-13 dual record. The team opened the season with a 9-0 record and later picked up Big Ten victories over Wisconsin and Penn State on the road.
Facundo Yunis and Jip van Assendelft qualified for the NCAA Doubles Championships in Waco, Texas (Nov. 19-24) and reached the Round of 16. The duo earned their spot in the championships with their performance in the ITA South Sectional.
In 2023-24, Indiana finished with a 16-11 record, the team’s best since the 2014-15 season. The Hoosiers were ranked as high as No. 32 in the ITA team rankings. Sophomore Sam Landau qualified for the main draw of the 2023 ITA All-American Championships in the fall. Landau would be ranked as high as No. 41 nationally in singles during the season.
For the 2022-23 season, Indiana posted a 13-15 mark. The team hosted the Big Ten Tournament which included back-to-back first round tournament wins over Penn State. Indiana won the match by the same score as the year prior, 4-3.
In 2021-22, the team went 6-18 on the season. The Hoosiers knocked off Penn State in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament in a 4-3 thriller of a match.
In 2021, the Hoosiers went 7-10 in a shortened conference-only season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the 2019-20 season the Hoosiers went 8-3, their best start through 11 matches since the 2010-11 season. The Hoosiers were ranked as high at No. 37 in the country on the season…Bennett Crane reached the final of the ITA Regional Championships and earned a spot in the ITA Fall National Championships. Crane was ranked as high as No. 49 on the reached and teamed with Zac Brodney to reach a ranking of No. 42.
Wurtzman guided the Hoosiers to a 17-10 record in his first season with the Indiana men’s tennis program in the 2014-15 season. The Hoosiers won their most overall matches and conference matches since the 2012-13 season.
In the 2015-16 season the Hoosiers finished fifth in the Big Ten conference standings as they won their last five conference matches of the season. Senior Sam Monette earned First Team All-Big Ten honors and was selected the Ohio Valley Region Player of the Year.
The following year of 2016-17, the Hoosiers posted a 13-13 record including 10 wins at home.
In 2017-18, Wurtzman guided IU to a 15-12 record, 7-4 in the conference. He also saw Raheel Manji earn All-Big Ten honors.
Before Indiana, the Rochester, N.Y. native, Wurtzman coached at Michigan after a successful four-year head coaching tenure with the University of Denver women’s tennis program (2009-13).
The 2013 Western Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, Wurtzman guided Denver to one of the most successful seasons in program history, leading the Pioneers to an 18-4 record and a perfect 8-0 mark in conference play. Prior to taking the helm at Denver, Wurtzman spent the 2008-09 season as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Ohio State, helping the Buckeyes men’s tennis program to the Big Ten regular-season championship, the Big Ten Tournament title and an NCAA finals appearance against USC.
Wurtzman began his coaching career as an assistant coach for the University of Denver men’s tennis team for two seasons (2006-08). During his first stint with the Pioneers, Denver posted a 31-14 record (.689), qualified for its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance, achieved its highest team ranking of No. 37 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.
Wurztman enjoyed a successful professional playing career on the ATP World Tour, earning a top-30 American professional singles ranking, captured nine pro circuit doubles titles and was a three-time pro circuit singles finalist.
Ohio State’s first tennis athlete to win an ITA individual championship, Wurtzman went on to win the 2003 ITA Midwest Regional crown before earning the No. 1 singles ranking the following season in 2004. After compiling 42 singles and 30 doubles victories in 2004, Wurtzman was named an All-American, the 2004 ITA/Farnsworth National Senior Player of the Year (co-honoree) and the Midwest Region IV Senior Player of the Year. In 2014, Wurtzman was elected to the Ohio State Hall of Fame.
A three-time All-Big Ten selection, Wurtzman finished his collegiate career with a 132-45 singles record and an 86-49 doubles record. Wurtzman received his bachelor’s degree in Science of Human Ecology from Ohio State in 2008. Wurtzman and his wife, Gretchen, have two daughters and a son, Quinn (13), Maya (11) and Buckley (8).
