Bio
JUNIOR YEAR (1987-88)
Ann Mooney proved to be a real team leader last season, and she will be looked to again this year to perform that same role. Ann's aggressive style of play made her the team leader in assists and steals last season., as well as tying teammate Pam Fritz for the third highest scoring average. Ann was a key player in the Hoosier upset win over Michigan State, a team ranked second in the Big Ten at the time, when she hit a pair of clutch freethrows at the end of the game. As a freshman, Ann saw limited playing time and was just starting to come into her own as a sophomore when she was setback with an ankle injury. Despite the injury she still played in 26 games. This past season, Ann scored a career high of 18 points in a game agaist Eastern Kentucky.
SOPHOMORE YEAR (1986-87)
Ann Mooney went from limited playing time as a freshman to a starting position last year. However, 1987 was filled wih many ups and downs. She earned a starting spot at the beginning of the season only to be set back with an ankle injury at the Las Vegas Tournament. With a lot of work and determination, she was able to work her way back into the lineup. Three times Ann reached a career high 10 points. her scoring average was 4.7 and twice she dished out six assists in a single game. Coach Jorja Hoehn believes Ann has the potential to become one of the top swing guards in the Big Ten. Ann is a defensive specialist. An excellent student, Ann was named to the 1987 academic All-Big Ten team.
FRESHMAN YEAR (1985-86)
Most newcomers are not prepared to face the level of competition at a Division I university, but Ann Mooney was. Every time she was called upon to play, she did so with enthusiasm and intensity. With last years two starting guards lost to graduation, Ann's chances of playing an increasingly important role improve. A smart and aggressive player, Ann's quickness fits quite well into Coach Hoehn's style. Ann had a career high six points against Toledo in the first game of the season. Although she only played on the average of four minutes, she made 14 trips to the free throw line sinking 11.
PREP
Smart, aggressive, and quick, Ann Mooney could be just what Indiana has been looking for, especially with new coach Jorja Hoehn's penchant for a faster game. A two-time All-Ohio pick coached at New Lexington High School by Roger Hooper, Ann led her team to the state playoffs while averaging 28 points and 11 rebounds per game as a senior, shooting 67 percent from the floor and 84 percent from the line. Other Mooney stats include averages of 7.3 assists and 5.4 steals. She was twice an all-conference choice, the 1985 District Player of the Year. and McDonald's North-South All-Star and an AAU All-American. Ann is an excellent student, graduating second in her high school class of 165, and a natural leader. These attributes, along with her quick pass, her accurate outside shot and ability to penetrate, mark her as an immediate contributor to Indiana basketball.
