JUNIOR YEAR (1981-82)
Originally Debra McClurg came to Indiana University on a volleyball grant and participated in that sport for two years. In January of 1981 she joined the basketball squad and started several games until she was sidelined by a knee injury. Las January Deb played the best basketball of her career. She averaged 13 points over that stretch and hit an amazing 21 consecutive free throws setting a school season record with several 100 percent games. Within that time frame McClurg also set a new single game record for steals grabbing nine in a televised contest against Northwestern. Her best showing came at the Penn State invitational where she scored 36 points, pulled in 19 rebounds and dished out 5 assists in two games. That performance placed her on the All-Tournament team. Deb's style of play will be counted on again. The power forward can post effectively, rebounds aggressively on the offensive boards, and also possesses a fine outside shooting accuracy.
SOPHOMORE YEAR (1980-81)
Beginning her first full year as a basketball Hoosier... Joined the team in mid-December last season... Has lettered twice in volleyball at IU... Started several games last year at IU until a knee injury forced her to the bench... An aggressive rebounder who really hits the offensive boards... A physically strong player with excellent jumping ability... Compliments good inside moves with an easy touch from 15 feet... Can play on the perimeter or in the post... Is also a fine defensive player.
