JUNIOR YEAR (1986-87)
As last season wore on, Diana found herself in an ever-increasing role. Diana saw the most playing time of her career, averaging nine minutes a game. She also had career highs in points, rebounds and assists. In the first game of the season, Diana had seven points and four rebounds. Diana's leadership qualities will play an important part in orienting the six newcomers into the Indiana program. Coach Jorja Hoehn has remarked that Diana is very coachable and hard working.
SOPHOMORE YEAR (1985-86)
Diana found that her role on the team with the new coaching staff was very similar to the one she played as a rookie. Her hard work and team-oriented spirit always add a big lift to those players who are starters. Diana had a career high six points against Toledo in the season's opener. From the line she hit four out of five for 80 percent. Her previous season high was five points coming in IU's opener with Ball State her freshman year. With two years of college playing experience behind her, Diana will be more than adequately prepared to meet the challenges that await her.
FRESHMAN YEAR (1984-85)
Diana Small is looking forward to her sophomore year to see if she has completed the adjustment to top women's collegiate basketball. She practiced hard last season while averaging only three minutes of play in seven games, but continued to improve her shot and ability to penetrate inside. She was 2-for-2 in four of the seven games she played, here season high of five points coming in IU's opener with Ball State, and finished the season with a .500 field goal shooting percentage.
PREP
Diana Small's definition of winning is, simply, "doing your best." And as her prep credentials illustrated, Diana has been following that precept throughout her young life. Under the leadership of Decatur Central coach David Oberle, Diana was twice a member of sectional and regional championship teams. She earned numerous appointments to all-star squads and several individual honors including the prestigious Marion County Girls Sports Athletic Association Athlete-of-the-Year award. Diana's AAU roundball squad earned state titles in 1982 and 1983. She was a second team Junior Olympic all-America selection for her performance in 1982. However, her feats are not limited to the hardwood. Di was a standout in volleyball, track and field, and softball as well.
