FRESHMAN YEAR (1980-1981)
During her rookie year, Raffel's performance was truly spectacular. Leading scorer for the '79-80 Hoosiers with 15.1 ppg, she still managed to amass the second highest number of assists (58) and stole the ball 42 times. Her .800 free throw percentage was also tops for the season. Honors as Freshman All-American on the first team in Region 5 rounded out an already impressive beginning. So, how will Dorothy Raffel top an act like that? Indiana fans can only wait and see, but her keen sense for the over all game and outstanding shooting skills promise an encore. Expect to see her compete at both forward and guard positions as evidence of her excellent ball handling ability.
PREP
Dorothy Raffel's coach at State College High School, Mike Fergus, surely hated to see her kind of talent graduate from a team this All-Stater led to the quarter finals of the Pennsylvania State High School Tournament. Her ability to hook, power inside, and consistently hit 18 footers gained her a berth on the Eastern Junior National team at the Olympic Sports Festival in Colorado Springs the summer before settling in at I.U.
