Bio
JUNIOR YEAR (1984-85)
The exuberant Jennifer Wilfong's statistics do not reflect the extensive responsibilities she has assumed since joining the Hoosier squad three years ago. A lack of speed has limited her playing time in the past to coming off the bench for some quick outside scoring or simply to fire up her teammates. Jennifer served as co-captain last year, filtering her competitive attitude and unending desire throughout the young Hoosiers. A starter in two of the 23 games she played last season, she totaled a career high eight assists and season highs of seven points and four rebounds during the Hoosiers' 74-66 loss to a strong Portland squad. Her 1984-85 scoring average of 1.5 duplicates her career average and she is .405 from the field in the past three years.
SOPHOMORE YEAR (1983-84)
If there ever was an athlete at Indiana University to carry the banner of "Hoosier Pride" as their own, it is Jennifer Wilfong. A 1985 co-captain, the exuberant Wilfong personality spills over into her game as a bundle of intense competitiveness and unending desire. her lack of speed has limited her playing time, but as a pure scorer, she possesses the ability to inject the offense with a quick spurt of adrenalin. This talent was first apparent during her freshman season when she pumped in an immediate eight points from the 15 to 18 foot-range to spark a sluggish Hoosier team toward a win over Purdue. A steady hard-working guard with solid court vision, good passing ability and a sweet outside shot, Jennifer excels under pressure and is excellent in her fire up role when some fast points are needed.
FRESHMAN YEAR (1982-83)
The number one prep scorer in the state of Indiana her senior year, Jennifer Wilfong finished her rookie collegiate season shooting an IU team best .500 from the field. her game high scoring came in mid-season in a 77-50 win over Purdue when she pumped in eight quick points from the 15 to 18 foot range to fire up a sluggish Hoosier offense. Wilfong, although playing only 10 minutes, produced a season best four assists, one rebound, and one steal in the Ohio State Big Ten Championship game. Solid court vision and excellent passing ability give Wilfong great potential for Indiana as a steady, hard-working guard and as a fine shooter from outside. Also an asset- her exuberant personality and a great love for IU.
PREP
The number one prep scorer in the state of Indiana will be wearing a Cream and Crimson uniform this year. She is Jennifer Wilfong, a 5-7 guard who averaged 26.5 points per game as a senior at Knightstown High School. Named to the UPI All-State first team and "Hoosier Basketball" magazine's preseason All-state team, Wilfong shot 60 percent from the field and 82 percent from the foul line during her final prep campaign, while averaging just over five assists per outing. Solid court vision and excellent passing ability may give her a starting assignment at the point. Jennifer, a National Honor Society member, graduated from high school with a 3.55 grade point average, 11th in a class of 145, and was also an outstanding athlete in volleyball and track. Becky Freeman coached Wilfong at Knightstown high where the IU rookie scored a career high 39 points in a single game, won the most assists award four years in a row and both the best free throw and field goal percentage awards two consecutive years.
