JUNIOR YEAR (1980-81)
Now in her second year at IU after transferring from the University of Dayton... Member of the 1980 AIAW Division II National Championship team at Dayton...Played for the 1981 U.S Collegiate All-Star team which toured the People's Republic of China... A smart player who operated out of the point position last season... Scored at a 7.7 game clip and added 3 rebounds as a Hoosier... dished out 149 assists to lead the team... Only senior on the squad... Will be looked to for maturity and leadership... Experience and a thorough understanding of the game could be her biggest contributions to a young team.
SOPHOMORE YEAR (1979-1980)
At Dayton's Fairmont High School, Julie Johnson, coached by Nancy Benadum, shined as an offensive star. She truly came into her own, however, at point guard position for the University of Dayton where she also played intercollegiate volleyball. Johnson's strong athletic ability and versatility made her a valuable asset to Coach Maryalyce Jeremiah's 1979-80 NJCAA championship Flyers. A consistent performer and excellent ball handler, she averaged 6.2 ppg last year while her nimble hands gained thr Flyers 39 steals for the season. Packing all of her talent along to Indiana, Johnson is expected to show quickness both offensively and defensively. She should prove to be very powerful through the ability to drive to the basket, and her talent to find the open player will establish this first year Hoosier's keen awareness of the court.
