Bio
JUNIOR YEAR (1981-82)
Possibly the best all-around athlete on the Hoosier list, Kim Land is an aggressive player who always goes at full speed. this season's co-captain, she is now in her third year at IU after transferring from Ohio State university. Land possesses above average speed, jumping ability, and physical strength, but her development into a more disciplined ballplayer is the quality which most pleases the coaching staff. At times last season Kim played the point position but she is at her best in the off-guard spot. Last year her top performance came in a loss to Illinois State University. Kim made eight of 12 field goals and added a free throw for 17 points. Against Pittsburgh she hit for 18, her 1981-82 seasonal high. Land competed in AAU ball last April and earned All-American honors with teammate Rachelle Bostic as the pair led the Joe Dial Insurance team to the AAU National Championship. Currently, Kim is tied with past Hoosier player Lori Burroughs for the single game assist mark of 12.
SOPHOMORE YEAR (1980-81)
A transfer last season from Ohio State... An aggressive player who always goes at full speed... Scored 10 points a game a year ago and dished out 140 assists... Led the team in steals with 59... Has exceptional physical strength... Jumps well... Deceptively quick with the ability to penetrate... Has improved her outside shooting accuracy... Should really come into her own this year... Can play the point, but will be used mainly in a big guard spot.
Kim Land returns to her home state of Indiana after a year of basketball with the Ohio State Buckeyes. In high school at Indianapolis North Central, Land worked under the guidance of Coach Jane Maines and was rewarded for her efforts by earning High School Converse All-American status along with places on both the '78 and '79 Indiana all star teams. In her freshman year at Ohio State, she averaged 7.1 ppg, shooting particularly well from the outside. Proficient passing gathered Land a total of 52 assists for that season. Hoosier coaches find in Land a floor leader of exceptional physical strength. This power lends toward her defensive aggressiveness and her threatening potential to penetrate. Added to her passing excellence and good outside shooting, these abilities should make Land's welcome home a warm one.
