FRESHMAN YEAR (1983-84)
Mary Ann Stemen defines a winner as "one who strives to accomplish their own set of goals." She has set a high standard for herself this season. Nary Ann wants a lot of playing time, and being a winner, she is likely to pull it off. As a freshman, Stemen played in 27 games, starting in four and averaging nearly 10 minutes each outing. Making efficient use of her time, she shot .456 (26-57) from the field, scoring 2.0 points and snaring 1.4 boards per game. The highlight of Mary Ann's season came at home against Minnesota, her second start of the year. Shooting .800 (8-10), all from 15-20 feet out, Stemen scored 16 points while distributing six assists as well. At South Carolina, she also showed rebounding potential snagging eight in just over 20 minutes. Along with her accurate outside touch, excellent defensive skills and a solid base of experience, Mary Ann offers a thorough understanding of Indiana's new offense, a definite asset toward her attaining her season goal.
