Bio
JUNIOR YEAR (1982-83)
One of the Midwest's most recognized players, Rachelle Bostic produced her best all-around game last year in the double overtime, 83-77 win over Northwestern. In the victory which was the deciding factor in awarding IU the NCAA berth over co-league champion Ohio State, she shot .625 from the field, scored 22 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, blocked one shot and slipped away four steals. Last season's second leading scorer and rebounder, Boz broke her IU career high in scoring against Purdue when she totaled 31 points. Picked the past two years as a "player to watch" in the Big Ten, the charismatic Bostic is the third woman in IU's varsity history to score 1000 points, and her present total of 1,389 places her second in Indiana's all-time record book, where she is also number two in rebounding with 697. She was the Big Ten's eighth best scorer and ninth best rebounder in 1983. A 1981 National Sports Festival North team member, Rachelle is gifted with exceptional leaping ability and a quick shooting touch. Among her other honors: 1982 All Big Ten, 1983 All-Big Ten Honorable Mention and numerous all tournament teams. In 1982 she was named an AAU All-American after competing on the Joe Dial AAU National Championship team.
SOPHOMORE YEAR (1981-1982)
One of the Midwest's premier players, Rachelle followed her stellar freshman season with another fine offensive performance last year. Bostic, a co-captain last season, seemed to save her best play for tournament time earning all-tournament honors at every event in which the Hoosiers participated. She was named to the elite squads at the Northern Lights Invitational in Alaska, the Big Ten Championship, the Penn State Coca-Cola Classic and the California Irvine Tournament where she also received MVP honors. Couple those selections with a spot on the All-State team as a college freshman and an appearance on the 1981 National Sports Festival North Team and its easy to see why Boz owns the reputation of being a "money player". Fans are accustomed to Bostic's exceptional leaping ability and quick shooting touch. She is currently the IU record holder for most field goals made in an individual season- 217. With a total of 900 career points to date, Rachelle will be fighting teammate Denise Jackson (913) to become the second member of the IU 1000 point club joining Sue Hodges (1265). This past year Bostic competed on the Joe Dial Insurance AAU team which won the AAU National Championship. She was named an AAU All-American as was teammate Kim Land. Bostic, who still holds state high school track records for the 100 and 200, is no the only Big Ten athlete in her family. Brother Herb plays basketball at Michigan State.

PREP
Her brother stayed in their home state to play Big Ten Basketball for Michigan State, but Rachelle Bostic chose Indiana, Hoosier coaches are glad of it. An all-over quick player, Bostic was coached by Linda Mueller at Detroit's Royal Oak Shrine H.S. Averaging 14 rebounds and 24 points per game, she secured her team's MVP award and collected a whole string of other honors besides. An All-Catholic, All-County, All-Metro, and All-State athlete, she was also named to the All-American Parade and Converse teams. Can she top herself at Indiana? Coach Jeremiah and colleagues think so. A decisive rebounder, Bostic will be a great scoring threat from inside, and fans should expect her to bring a new dimension of exciting post play to the game. Considered one of the strongest young freshmen in the Mid-West, Bostic holds tremendous over-all potential leaving no doubt about what a strong addition she is to the Indiana squad.
