Bio
JUNIOR YEAR (1986-87)
Rosie Carlton finally got a chance to show her ability in 1987, starting in 26 of 27 games. She bettered her statistics in every category of her first two years combined. At six-three, Rosie is the tallest Hoosier and thus plays in the center for IU. Last year she was Indiana's leading rebounder, averaging nine a game, which is the best rebounding average Indiana has had since Denise Jackson. In three different games, Rosie grabbed 15 boards and she had her best offensive game of her career in the first game of the season. Rosie also was the conferences leading rebounder with 9.5 per game. Coach Jorja Hoehn calls Rosie the most improved player and the best defensive player on the team.
SOPHOMORE YEAR (1985-86)
At six feet three inches, Rosie Carlton is the tallest member of the Hoosier squad. This factor added to her knowledge of the game made Rosie an invaluable substitute during the 1985-86 campaign. she came on early in the season, tying her career high of eight points in the first game. Against Louisville, she had a career high nine rebounds, demonstrating her ability to grab the boards. Like most everyone last year, Rosie had to adjust to the new coaching staff, but even though her role was one of a substitute, she performed it well. Rosie is a key to IU's offensive attack for when she is on the floor, she picks up any slack left by a resting starter. With a good solid summer and fall of training, she could very well challenge for a starting role.
FRESHMAN YEAR (1984-85)
Although just coming back from an elbow injury which cut her senior season to only seven games, Rosie Carlton became one of Indiana's most aggressive players as she progressively familiarized herself with the Division I style of play. At 6-3 she was IU's tallest player last year and by the end of the season, was one of the top rebounders among non-regular starters. Carlton started four games and played in 26, averaging 2.3 points and 2.8 rebounds per game. She and Noelle Young both helped in taking over injured starter Mary Ann Stemen's responsibilities. Rosie highlighted her season with an eight-point, eight-rebound effort against Wisconsin and a five-point, 10-rebound performance against Iowa.
PREP
At 6-3 Roseann Carlton is the tallest Hoosier on the squad this year. With her height and aggressive style of play she is expected to assume some of the rebounding lost with the graduation of All-Big Ten center/forward Denise Jackson. Although an elbow injury reduced her senior season to only seven games, under the tutelage of mentor Greg Johnston she averaged 13 rebounds and 15 points per outing. A four-sport athlete at Columbia, South Carolina's Spring Valley High School, Roseann was an all-state Junior Olympic selection in 1983 and helped lead her volleyball team to an undefeated season her senior year. She was named to the all-region squad in that sport and was chosen the team's most improved athlete for her efforts.
