Bio
JUNIOR YEAR (1985-86)
Skeeter played a supportive role in 1985, coming off the bench to give the starters a rest. She saw the most playing time and had the most productive season scoring and rebounding than any other season. Against Indiana State early in the season, she scored a career high seven points and grabbed four rebounds. She has battled a knee injury for the past two seasons but all indications point toward a successful rehabilitation. She tore an anterior cruciate during a game her freshman year and may become one of Indiana's best ball handlers and breakers of the press. In 1985 she hit 11 of 15 free throws for 73.3 percent, the third best on the team among players who played in 2 games or more.
SOPHOMORE YEAR (1984-85)
During her rookie season, Skeeter Lounsbury was working her way into the Hoosiers' starting lineup when she suffered a torn anterior cruciate, an injury resulting in knee surgery. Although she is potentially IU's best ballhandler and breaker of the press, Lounsbury saw limited playing time last year while struggling with recovery from her injury and playing with a full-length knee brace. She started one out of the 13 games she played, her talents utilized mostly when the Hoosier defense needed a spark. Her season high five points came in IU's opener against Ball State, where she was one-for-one from the field and three-of-four at the line. Hopefully, Skeeter will be able to return for more playing time this season so that her cer court creativity and talent for breaking the press can be fully utilized.
FRESHMAN YEAR (1983-84)
For Skeeter Lounsbury, her rookie season was the best of times and it was the worst of time. Somewhat of a surprise, Skeeter became an early contributor, and by midway through Indiana's conference schedule, in a home game versus Wisconsin, she got her second collegiate start. It was in the midst of the contest, where in just over half of a game she scored six points, seized three rebounds and a steal and also issued five assists, that she suffered a torn anterior cruciate, an injury resulting in knee surgery. Hoosier coaches are extremely anxious for this intense competitor's return to action, and according to the team trainer, Skeeter's progress is happily right on, if not just a bit ahead of, schedule. Another true point guard, Lounsbury's strengths are not likely to reveal themselves through the statistics. It is her creativity on the court, along with her ballhandling ability and the talent for breaking the press that make Skeeter a significant presence on the floor.
PREP
Carol Kegley, a former IU player, coached Lounsbury at Muncie Northside High School where the team advanced to the IHSAA Girls Basketball Semi-state in 1983. Lounsbury averaged 21 points and 11 assists during that campaign which led to her being named team MVP for the fourth consecutive year.
PERSONAL
Lounsbury is majoring in physical education and she plans to use her degree to teach and coach. Her given name is Laura although she much prefers "skeeter". Her parents are Darwin and Shirley Bookout and she was born on August 8, 1965
