Taryn Gilrein joined the IU Sports Medicine staff in 2014 and works primarily with the IU softball and women’s golf programs.
Taryn grew up on the East Coast in Massachusetts and earned her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Ithaca College in 2007. From there she moved down to North Carolina to work at Select Physical Therapy clinic in Durham, NC in addition to being the head Athletic Trainer for Trinity High School in Durham. She went on to earn her Master’s degree in Sports Medicine from UNC Chapel Hill where she worked with the field hockey and baseball teams. Taryn was fortunate to travel to the Final Four both years and the National Championship with 2013 field hockey team as well as the College World Series with the 2013 baseball team. While at UNC, she focused her thesis studies on the impact of concussion on vision in athletes.
In addition to providing Sports Medicine care to her teams, Taryn is a Clinical Instructor and mentor with the IU Athletic Training Education Program and heavily involved in the IU Athletic Training Student Council. She has recently become an Adjunct Instructor for the Department of Kinesiology in the School of Public Health and enjoys the opportunity to teach undergraduate students.
Taryn is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) and the College Athletic Trainers’ Society and currently resides in Bloomington, Ind.
