Walton is in his third year at Indiana in 2015, serving in his new role as director of set pieces and technical development.
Prior to his new responsibilities, Walton worked primarily with the offense where Jessie Bujouves led the 2014 attack with 11 points and five goals, including two game-winners. Also netting a pair of game-winning goals was Veronica Ellis, who found the back of the net in the 49th minute to defeat Purdue. Freshman Kayla Smith, who scored the winner against Michigan State, was named Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week for her efforts against the Spartans. Smith netted three goals and recorded three assists on the year for Indiana.
In his first season with the Hoosiers, he certainly set the bar very high, as Indiana set new program records for goals (43), assists (46) and wins (15). He mentored Lisa Nouanesengsy in her senior year, and she went on to be named First Team All-Region and Second Team All-Big Ten while finishing her career ranked sixth in program history with 24 goals.
Walton came to the IU staff from Birmingham-Southern College (BSC) in Alabama, where he was the head coach for the six seasons. During his tenure, he led the program through the transition from NCAA Division I to NCAA Division III. He posted a record of 69-38-5 at BSC, becoming the all-time leader in wins, and won at least 10 games in each season.
The 2012 season saw BSC capture the Southern Collegiate Athletic Association (SCAC) regular season co-championship.
He has coached or recruited four NSCAA All-Region players and five NSCAA Scholar All-Region players, including two that went on to be named NSCAA Scholar All-Americans.
Before his time at BSC, Walton was the head coach at Limestone College for four seasons where he turned the program around at the Division II level. After posting a total of 11 wins his first two seasons, he went 17-16-5 over his last two years and had a pair of fifth place finishes in the Carolinas Virginia Athletic Conference.
A native of Lawrenceville, Ga., Walton also a volunteer assistant coach at the University of Georgia for three seasons (2002-03) while earning a Master’s Degree in Education with a focus on Sports Administration.
His playing career at Reinhardt College (1997-2001) saw him lead the team to the NJCAA National Championship game as sophomore, with a 21-1-1 record. His senior year he was second team all-conference and was named NCCAA All-America Honorable Mention.
He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Reinhardt College in Business Administration.
