Linda Sayavongchanh is in her third season as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator with Indiana Women’s Basketball in 2024-25.
The Hoosiers have made two NCAA Tournament appearances in Sayvongchanh’s time on staff, including a trip to the Sweet Sixteen in 2023-24 and a Big Ten regular season championship in 2022-23. Indiana also put up record setting shooting numbers in 2023-24, finishing No. 1 in the nation in field goal percentage and 3-point field goal percentage.
In its ninth-straight 20-win season, the 2023-24 Indiana squad advanced to the regional semifinal for the third time in four years and finished 26-6 overall. The Hoosiers set four new program records including field goal percentage (50.4), 3-pointers made (268), 3-point percentage (39.6) and assists (591). Four players earned All-Big Ten honors and completed a perfect record at home by going 15-0 in action inside Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
In her first season with the Hoosiers in 2023-24, Sayavongchanh helped Sydney Parrish to a place on the All-Big Ten honorable mention squad. IU claimed its first Big Ten regular season championship in 40 years. The team earned the program’s first No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament and climbed as high as No. 2 in both national polls. The Hoosiers set a new program record for wins in a season (28) and tied the records for Big Ten wins in a season (16) while posting its eighth-straight 20-win season.
Sayavongchanh came to Indiana after spending seven seasons at Creighton (2015-22), where she was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. During her time in Omaha, she helped the Bluejays to three trips to the NCAA Tournament including the program’s first ever trips to the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight in 2022. Sayavongchanh worked with guards and combo players during her first four seasons, before transitioning to work specifically with hybrids (posts) over the last three seasons. Her players earned a plethora of accolades during her time with CU, including the program’s first ever WNBA draft pick in Jaylyn Agnew who was also the 2020 Big East Player of the Year. Other players under Sayavongchanh’s instruction included All-Big East guards Marissa Janning, Temi Carda, Sydney Lamberty and forwards Audrey Faber, Morgan Maly and Emma Ronsiek. Maly was named the 2021-22 BIG EAST Sixth Player of the Year while Rosniek also earned a place on the league’s first team last season.
Before Creighton, Sayavongchanh spent two years at Saint Louis (2013-15) and spent time on the bench with North Dakota (2012-13) as well as her alma mater, Drake (2009-12). She began her career as a graduate assistant at Minnesota-Duluth (2007-09).
Sayavongchanh starred at Drake from 2002-06 where she was a three-time All-Missouri Valley Conference selection. She finished her career with 1,129 points and was named to the MVC All-Defensive team three times. She closed her career second in steals for the Bulldogs with 266, including 105 in 2003-04.
A native of Des Moines, Iowa, Sayavongchanh is a member of the Lincoln High School Hall of Fame as well as the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union Hall of Fame. She holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Drake (2007). She and longtime boyfriend Joe Konrad have a dog, Kobe.
