"Gwen is an impressive person with a contagious energy," Aird said. "She is one of the finest coaches I have every had the opportunity to work with. Her experience in the high school and club level is so impressive and with eight freshmen making the transition to our program her skill set becomes invaluable. She is really excited to get to Bloomington and start working with our players. I know she believes in what we do and how we do it. We feel very fortunate that she will be part of the staff for the 2020 season"
As a club coach in the 18 Open Division, her teams earned eight top five finishes, winning the National Championship in 2009. Her love of developing young players garnered two AVCA All-Americans and two Olympians in Allison Weston and current national team captain Jordan Larson.
At the high school level, Egbert posted a record of 700-223 with six Class A State Championships, including titles in each of her last three years. Her teams also took runner-up honors on seven occasions. Egbert's squads made the championship game of the Class A Tournament in 13 of their 17 appearances.
"Steve and I have a great relationship that has lasted for over 15 years," Egbert said. "He has brought his huge heart, passion, work ethic and love to this Indiana program. I am blessed to be a part of this incredible coaching staff and to see this program go to the top."
Prior to the start of her coaching career, Egbert played volleyball at the University of Nebraska under coach Terry Pettit. After two years at Kellogg Community College in Michigan, Egbert transferred to Nebraska, where she was a member of two Big 8 championship teams. She was selected team captain her senior year and was named First Team All-Big 8. The team also made their first NCAA National Tournament appearance that year, going 1-1 in the tournament.
During her two years at Nebraska, the Huskers went 56-16, winning both the regular season and tournament conference championships. Following the competition of her playing days, Egbert got her start in coaching as a graduate assistant for Nebraska. The team made a second straight appearance in the NCAA National Tournament that season.
Egbert, a native of Parchment, Michigan, now calls Martell, Nebraska home. She has been married to Bernie Medinger for 30 years. Her son Dr. William Egbert currently resides in New York City.
