Assistant Coach Kevin Hodge
Kevin Hodge completed his third season as an assistant coach in Bloomington in 2025. A longtime friend, teammate and co-worker of head coach Steve Aird, he was named an assistant coach for Indiana volleyball on July 6, 2023.
Hodge spends time working with the team’s defensive game plan and in-game serving strategy. Over his three seasons in Bloomington, the Hoosiers have racked up 618 aces including 122 from All-American Camryn Haworth. The Fishers, Indiana native went on to break the program’s all-time aces record (213) as a senior in 2024.
The Hoosiers were extremely efficient from the end line in 2025. Five different players had at least 20 aces, led by freshman Teodora Krickovic with 38. In a win over Maryland, graduate student Jessica Smith became the seventh player in program history with six aces in a match. IU finished with 192 aces in 2025 and only 233 service errors. On five occasions, IU had double-digit aces in a contest.
IU welcomed in a completely new cohort of back row players in 2025. Three freshmen helped anchor the libero jersey including Audrey Jackson. She became the team’s primary ball handler in the libero jersey and racked up 193 digs while passing above a 2.10 on the season. Freshman outside hitter Jaidyn Jager led the team with 249 digs and passed at an elite level. Avery Freeman (119 digs) and Hannah Leftridge (67) each spent time in the jersey as well.
Former libero Ramsey Gary worked closely with Hodge in both of her two seasons at IU. She was a two-time All-Big Ten selection and racked up 968 digs in just 63 matches. She broke both IU’s freshman and all-time single season digs record (530) and was a unanimous All-Big Ten Freshman team choice in 2023
The Hoosiers totaled 215 aces in 2023, becoming the first Big Ten program since 2001-02 with consecutive seasons of 200+ aces. IU’s defense was vastly improved in 2023, totaling 1,647 digs and 303 blocks. IU matched a program record with 21 regular season wins in 2023 and beat Purdue for the first time since 2012.
In the three seasons that Hodge has been at IU, it has racked up 61 wins overall and 33 conference wins. The Hoosiers have gone 33-9 (.786) at Wilkinson Hall during that span, winning 10+ home matches in three-straight years for the first time since 1998-2000.
Personal
Hodge joins the IU program after working as the Director of Girls Indoor Recruiting at WAVE, California’s premier club volleyball program, since 2015. He took on a variety of roles for the club, most notably being named 2019 National 17’s Club Coach of the Year. During his time in California, he coached future Hoosiers, Jaidyn Jager, Avry Tatum and Jessica Smith.
At Penn State, Hodge played four seasons with the Nittany Lion Men’s Volleyball team from 1998-2002 where he was a teammate of Aird’s. Hodge helped lead Penn State to four consecutive Final Four appearances and was named to the EIVA All-Tournament team in 2001.
Following his playing career, Hodge served three years as a volunteer assistant coach under legendary Penn State women’s volleyball head coach Russ Rose. The Nittany Lions won three-straight Big Ten titles (2003-05) in those three seasons.
He would serve one year as an assistant coach in 2006 at the University of Cincinnati, overlapping with Aird once again in the Queen City. Hodge began his club coaching journey in 2007 with Team Z out of Cincinnati before moving out to Southern California. Hodge has spent time working with the Junior Volleyball Recruiting Association (JVRA) as the Advisory Board Chair and has helped coach some of the nation’s premier talent at WAVE.
Hodge is engaged to associate coach Rachel Morris. The couple lives in Bloomington with her dog Kona. Hodge has two sons – step-son, Davis and son, Keller.
