Candyce Schroeder enters her fourth season with her alma mater and first as associate head coach for Indiana in the 2025 season.
She primarily works with the team’s centers and heads up the program’s recruiting efforts. Additionally, Schroeder oversees the scout team and leads player film sessions. Under her instruction, three players have earned a combined 10 ACWPC All-American honors and five All-MPSF selections.
The 2024 season was the Hoosiers most successful since 2018, recording 21 wins, and nine over ranked opponents. Indiana brought home their first win over a Top 10 opponent since 2020 against No. 8 Princeton. Center Sophia Sollie had a career high year, totaling a team-high 57 goals, earning her an All-MPSF Honorable Mention.
The 2023 squad recorded 17 wins including its first win over Arizona State since 2005 and went 9-3 at action at home inside Counsilman Billingsley Aquatic Center. Indiana recorded nine ranked wins through the course of the season. Center Sophia Sollie had another impressive year for the Hoosiers, as she was second on the team in scoring (39) and earned the program’s first MPSF Player of the Week honors since 2021.
In her first season, Schroeder helped lead the Hoosiers to a 15-15 record with impressive wins over No. 11 UCSD, No. 13 San Jose State, No. 18 LMU, No. 20 Harvard, No. 22 Marist, and No. 23 Brown. The Hoosiers ended the 21-22 season ranked at No. 14 overall. Four players earned ACWPC All-American honorable mentions; a program-record while Izzy Mandema (second team) and Skylar Kidd (newcomer team) earned All-MPSF honors.
Schroeder helped center Izzy Mandema to her 60 goals and 110 drawn exclusions in the 21-22 season with her center expertise.
Schroeder returned as an assistant coach with the Hoosiers in 2021 after four combined years of coaching experience at California State University Northridge (CSUN) and Durham University in the United Kingdom.
In her time at CSUN, she helped the team reach a Top 25 national ranking in her first two seasons. In 2020, the Matadors got off to their second-best start to a season in school history, going 12-4 in their first 16 games. She was a coach and a player for the 2016-2017 season at Durham University. Schroeder was an assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s teams and helped guide both groups to the British University College Sports (BUCS) National Championship.
Schroeder also played professionally for the Leeds Sharks in the British Water Polo National League where she led the Sharks in scoring in the same year.
In Bloomington, Schroeder made a name for herself as a standout center for the Hoosiers from 2013-2016. She accumulated 173 goals and 71 assists in her four years and broke an Indiana record, scoring seven goals against Bucknell.
During her sophomore season, she helped Indiana win a CWPA championship and earn an NCAA Tournament bid. The Hoosiers finished in seventh place that season.
Her play earned her All-Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) honors three times while also being a team captain and four-year letterwinner in her collegiate career.
Schroeder graduated from Indiana with a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2016 and completed a master’s degree in science marketing at Durham University in 2017.
