Emily Carr begins her third season at Indiana University in the 2018-19 academic year.
Carr wasted little time before making an impact in her first season with the Hoosiers. She helped head coach Ryan Castle add three new players to Indiana’s 2017 freshman class—Mollie Williams, Emily Powell, and Davis Simmons—who in turn developed quickly after joining the team at semester. Powell and Williams became consistent contributors, with Williams picking up an All-American honorable mention, while Simmons earned nine appearances and started for the CWPA Tournament. Carr also proved her hands-on approach to the game by joining the team in the pool for instruction.
“I am excited and proud to welcome Emily as a member of our coaching staff,” Castle said. “Emily brings a wealth of high level playing experience and expertise that will make an immediate impact on our program. She is one of the most energetic and competitive people I have ever worked with, however the most important quality Emily will bring is her leadership. She is an exceptional leader who will be great role model to all the young women in our program.”
Carr and Castle last joined forces at the University of Hawaii, where Castle was an assistant coach and Carr played four years as a starter (2012-2015).
Serving as the team captain in her junior and senior seasons, Carr was instrumental in helping Hawaii lift two Big West Championship trophies in 2013 and 2015. In addition, Carr led Hawaii to two NCAA Championship appearances, where they placed fourth in 2013 and seventh in 2015. In total, Carr scored 84 goals in 83 career appearances, along with 67 assists and 19 steals.
“I am extremely honored and excited to join the Hoosier water polo team during this exciting time with the program,” Carr said. “I am incredibly grateful to Coach Castle and the Hoosier athletics department for giving me the opportunity to coach at Indiana and work with an amazing group of young women.”
During her playing career, Carr gained a sense of the international game with the Australian Youth National Team. Carr captained the Australian Junior Team at the 2013 FINA World Junior Championships in Volos, Greece. With the Australian School Girls Team, Carr served as captain once again during their 2010 European tour.
While she was still in high school, Carr participated in the Australian National Water Polo League (NWPL), Australia’s premier domestic water polo competition, in addition to her prep career. Carr played for the Cronulla Sharks senior team, in one of the highest regarded water polo leagues in the world, from 2009-2011.
Carr, a native of Sydney, Australia, graduated in 2015 from the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a B.S. in Communications.

Indiana water polo head coach Ryan Castle announced August 12, 2016 the addition of assistant coach Emily Carr to his staff. Carr dons the Cream & Crimson after serving in as the girls varsity water polo head coach of Mercer Island High School.
