Beau Bauer is in his 10th year with the Varsity Club as an Assistant Athletic Director of Development. As one of the leading major gift officers on campus, he is responsible for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of donors with a focus on high-end annual giving and major gifts for capital projects and endowments. He acts as the Varsity Club’s liaison in Central Indiana, New York, and Florida to strengthen relationships with and support the region’s many loyal donors and prospects. Bauer has a deep understanding of the university advancement landscape and, as a former student-athlete, has a long connection to intercollegiate athletics.
Bauer is responsible for guiding the major gift efforts and overseeing the major gift staff of the Varsity Club. In his tenure, the Varsity Club has experienced record fundraising success and completed several significant capital projects across the athletics campus. Specifically, Bauer spearheaded efforts to raise over $13 million to renovate the nationally acclaimed Pfau Course at Indiana University. He was instrumental in obtaining several additional major and principal gifts, helping the department raise a record-breaking $215 million during the university’s For All bicentennial campaign. This campaign supported significant projects that have enhanced the student-athlete experience and provided critical resources in the areas of personal development, nutrition, and mental/physical health.
Since the introduction of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) to college athletics, Bauer has been heavily involved in shaping the department’s strategy and assisting the partnered collectives with critical fundraising efforts. He was a member of the department’s initial NIL task force in 2020, which provided leadership in developing the core principles and direction for IU Athletics' effort to support its students in understanding, assessing, and capitalizing on NIL opportunities. Over the last three years, he has worked collaboratively with the leadership of the department’s official partner collective to introduce new donors and members to the collective and to set fundraising and event strategies.
Prior to coming to Bloomington, Bauer spent the previous two-and-a-half years as an Account Executive & Operations Manager at Notre Dame Sports Properties. He was responsible for creating and developing new corporate partnerships for Notre Dame Athletics and fulfilling and implementing current sponsor inventory. Before South Bend, Bauer attended Ohio University in Athens and earned his MBA and master’s degree in sports administration in 2011.
Bauer graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University in 2008 with an undergraduate degree in management with a marketing minor. At FGCU, he was a two-year captain of the men’s basketball team after transferring from IPFW in 2005.
Originally from Walton, Indiana, Bauer and his wife, Brittany (a Coral Springs, Florida, native), currently reside in Bloomington. They are the proud parents of a son, Cullen, and a daughter, Camdyn.
