Joe Lueken came to Indiana University in 1993 and he currently serves as Head Athletic Trainer/HCA. When he worked with IU teams, Joe served as the athletic trainer for men's soccer from 1997-2017 and he worked with track and field from 1993-1997. During these years, he also worked with the baseball and golf teams. While with men’s soccer, Joe was a part of 5 NCAA Championships, 7 Big Ten Titles and 8 final four appearances. In addition to his athletic training and administrative duties, he has been an instructor with the School of Public Health since arriving in Bloomington in 1993.
Prior to arriving in Bloomington, Joe served as a staff athletic trainer for the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO. While on staff with the Olympic Committee, Joe provided medical coverage for Olympians and Olympic hopefuls. He gained international experience and served on the medical staffs for the 1994 Winter Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway, the World University Games in Zakopane, Poland and the US American Blind Association games in Madrid, Spain. Joe also served on the Board of Directors for the USOC's Sports Medicine Society from '96 - `02.
Joe has also been heavily involved with the Board of Certification Inc., which is the certifying board for the athletic training profession. He has served on the Exam Development Committee since 1995, he was sub-chair of the Exam Development Committee in 2011-2013 and currently has served as Chair of the Exam Development Committee since 2014. Joe has also served as Chair of the Building Blocks committee with the Research and Education Foundation within the National Athletic Trainers Association and he has served on several state committees as well.
Lueken earned his bachelor's degree from Indiana University in 1987 and his master's degree from the University of Arizona in 1990. Joe and his wife, Pam, are the parents of two daughters, Mckenzie and Abbie.
