Katie Bates enters her sixth year as Indiana University’s Assistant Athletic Director of Administration and Engagement. Her responsibilities include leadership responsibilities in multiple critical areas of the department, including administration, the men’s basketball program, and fundraising.

Bates serves the IU Athletics administration by strategizing and assisting with the implementation of the department’s key initiatives. Other administrative responsibilities include serving as the department’s liaison between the President’s Office, IU Foundation, and the IU Alumni Association on both Athletics and University internal and external projects and matters; Sport Administrator for the IU Cheer Program; planning of strategic opportunities and appearances for the Athletic Director and the Head Football and Men’s Basketball coaches. She also serves as the co-sport administrator for the men’s basketball program, where she focuses her efforts on the program’s strategic engagements, special projects, and alumni outreach.

Bates originally joined the IU Athletics department in 2015 as a member of the department’s fundraising body, the Varsity Club, and she continues to play an important role there. In addition to cultivating and stewarding Varsity Club donors through her support of all annual giving and major gift efforts, she also coordinates all Varsity Club and departmental-wide events, including the IU Athletics Hall of Fame, Donor Engagement events, University Dedications, and Reunions.

An Indiana native and Indiana University alum, Bates graduated from IU-Bloomington in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies.
