NEW YORK CITY -- The Indiana men's basketball team fell to No. 4 Louisville on Tuesday night, 94-74. The game was part of the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden and was the first matchup between the two teams since 2003.
Freshman James Blackmon Jr. led the Hoosiers in scoring with 18 points. Kevin Yogi Ferrell also hit double figures for Indiana with 13 points while Troy Williams and Hanner Mosquera-Perea each added 10 points.
Eight quick points from Mosquera-Perea paced the Hoosiers to start the game as the teams were knotted at 13-13 with 14:18 remaining in the opening period.
After Louisville opened up a 13-point lead at the 4:19 mark, the Hoosiers closed the half on a 10-2 run, including a 9-0 stretch in which Nick Zeisloft hit back-to-back triples as Indiana headed into the locker room down 46-41. Zeisloft led all first-half scorers for Indiana with nine points.
Indiana picked up where it left off as the Hoosiers opened the second stanza with a 9-0 run, capped by a 3-pointer from Ferrell. The run completed a 19-2 push from the 3:15 mark of the first period to the 14:21 mark of the second as the Hoosiers took a 50-46 lead, their first since a 9-6 advantage early in the game.
However, behind the hot shooting of Terry Rozier, Louisville took back the lead and pushed it to take a 13-point lead with 7:19 remaining.
A thundering dunk by Blackmon and a pair of free throws by Troy Williams cut the Cardinals' advantage to 10, but the Hoosiers were unable to get any closer as Louisville secured the victory at the free throw line.
The Hoosiers return to Assembly Hall on Saturday as they play host to Grand Canyon at 5 p.m.
