EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The Indiana men's basketball team fell to Michigan State on Monday evening, 70-50. The Hoosiers were led by 17 points, three rebounds and three assists from junior Kevin Yogi Ferrell.
Freshman Robert Johnson recorded nine points, six rebounds and three assists, while freshman James Blackmon Jr. added eight points and six rebounds for the Hoosiers (11-4, 1-1 Big Ten).
The Spartans (10-5, 1-1 Big Ten) opened up the game with an 11-2 run to take a nine-point advantage at the first media timeout with 14:10 left in the opening stanza.
Sparked by a 3-pointer from Ferrell, the Hoosiers went on a 7-0 stretch to close the Michigan State lead to 19-11 with 7:25 remaining. However, the Spartans responded to take a 36-17 advantage into the locker room.
Johnson knocked in all of his points in the second half, including a bucket during an 8-0 run for the Hoosiers as Indiana pulled to within 16 points at the 3:14 mark.
However, Indiana would get no closer as the Spartans saw three players hit double figures, led by 15 points from Denzel Valentine.
