
Indiana Defeats Minnesota with 18 Three-Pointers

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana (18-8, 8-5 Big Ten) used strong shooting to pull away from Minnesota (16-10, 5-8 Big Ten) in the second half and win 90-71 on Sunday night.
Indiana was led by 24 points and seven rebounds from freshman James Blackmon Jr. on 9-of-14 (64.3 percent) shooting. Rounding out the three Hoosiers in double figurers were Troy Williams and Robert Johnson, who each added 19 points. Kevin Yogi Ferrell's career-high 11 assists were part of Indiana's season-high 23 assists.
The Golden Gophers got out to a quick start, leading by as many as eight with 14:10 remaining in the first half (14-6). With just over 12 minutes remaining in the half and Indiana trailing 17-10, the Hoosiers went on a 9-0 run. The run consisted of two three-pointers by Nick Zeisloft and another by Ferrell, which was assisted by Zeisloft.
The Hoosiers dominated on the boards 19-9 and took a 44-38 lead into the locker room. For the game IU won the rebounding battle 35-16.
Coming out of halftime, Indiana went on a 6-0 run off of three-pointers from Johnson and Blackmon. The Hoosiers would never look back, as they hit 10-of-15 (66.7 percent) from behind the arc in the second half and led by as many as 19. In total, the Hoosiers would make an IU single-game school-record 18 threes. That total is also a new Big Ten record for 3-point field goals made in a conference game.
Troy Williams would hit his second three-pointer of the game to give Indiana the record and seal the victory, 90-71.
The Hoosiers will be home again to take on the Boilermakers this Thursday (Feb. 19) at 7 pm on ESPN.
