
Cross Country Earns Third Consecutive Sweep

On a picture-perfect morning in Lawrence, Kansas, the Hoosier cross country team won both the men's and women's races. Indiana was crowned the Rim Rock Farm Classic champions.
The women's team was able to upset host Kansas, the 26th ranked women's team in the country. The Hoosiers scored 36 points to earn the win over Rice (45 points) and Kansas (46 points). Katherine Receveur led the way with a runner-up finish with a time of 20:29. Brenna Calder took sixth with a time of 21:11. Haley Harris crossed in eighth at 21:34. Maggie Allen finished ninth to give the Hoosiers four top 10 finishers. Rounding out the IU scoring was Chanli Mundy, who took 11th. Eight of the top nine Indiana runners were either Freshmen or Sophomores.
The men's team, ranked 14th in the country, handled the competition with 23 points, besting Kansas (42) and Rice (98). Jason Crist was the lead men's runner and finished third with a time of 24:09. He was followed by teammates Matt Schwartzer and Ben Veatch. Schwartzer took fourth with a time of 24:13. Veatch was fifth with a mark of 24:14. Mark Chandler crossed in seventh. Bryce Millar rounded out the scoring with a 10th place finish for the Hoosiers. All five of IU's runners finished inside the top 10.
The Hoosiers will be back in action in two weeks. Part of the team will compete in the Bradley Classic on October 14, while the remainder of the team will take part in the Pre-National Invitational hosted by Indiana State on October 15.
