
Hoosiers Head to Ohio State, Maryland

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana Women's Soccer (5-7-3, 2-3-2 Big Ten) hits the road this week as the Hoosiers travel to Ohio State (9-4-2, 3-2-2 Big Ten) on Thursday night and Maryland (3-11-1, 1-6-0 Big Ten) on Sunday afternoon. Both games will be streamed live on BTN Plus.
BATTLING THE BUCKEYES
Ohio State, who received votes in this week's NSCAA Poll, is coming off a 4-1 victory at Purdue and a 4-0 win at Maryland. The Buckeyes' other conference win came against Iowa. OSU has dropped games to Minnesota and Nebraska while drawing with Northwestern and Wisconsin. Senior Lindsay Agnew leads the team in scoring with nine goals and five assists as her 23 points is second in the Big Ten. Junior Sammy Edwards is coming off a Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week nod after registering three goals and an assist last week. In goal, the Buckeyes have used three different keepers this season. After a season-ending injury to Jillian McVicker, OSU has turned mostly to Megan Geldernick with Devon Kerr also earning time between the pipes. Geldernick has made 14 saves in seven games with a 0.63 goals against average.
Indiana trails in the all-time series, 11-13-2, with the last IU victory coming in 2010. Last season, the Hoosiers lost on a heartbreaker as Michela Paradiso scored the game-winner for OSU in the 85th minute for a 2-1 victory.
MATCHING UP WITH MARYLAND
The Terrapins' lone Big Ten win came against Illinois on Sept. 22. Since then, Maryland has dropped five straight contests. The majority of the team's offense has come from junior Chelsea Jackson, who has netted nine goals, and sophomore Jarena Harmon, who has scored eight times. The Terrapins have also used three goalkeepers this season. Sophomore Katelyn Jensen has seen the most time and has 46 saves with a 2.16 goals against average in 11 games. Redshirt sophomore Rachel Egyed has seen the most action lately, picking up 37 saves with a 2.57 goals against average in 10 games. Redshirt senior Stephanie Senn has 13 saves and a 2.82 goals against average in five games.
IU trails, 0-1-2, in the all-time series.
These teams have posted draws the last two seasons, including a 1-1 stalemate last season that featured two penalty kicks.
LAST TIME OUT
The Hoosiers put up an impressive week in Bloomington, drawing with No. 13 Penn State, 1-1, and No. 24 Rutgers, 2-2. It marked the first time since 2005 Indiana has earned points against two ranked conference opponents in a single season.
On Thursday, the Hoosiers scored on an own goal in the 42nd minute to earn the draw against the defending national champions.
Sunday afternoon saw Indiana battle back from a 14th-minute 2-0 deficit as redshirt senior Marissa Borschke converted a penalty kick and freshman Sydney Kilgore scored her first career goal to equalize late in the first half. Goalkeeper Sarah L'Hommedia saved a penalty kick in the 75th minute to preserve the tie. It was the first time since an Oct. 24, 2010 3-2 win at Iowa that the Hoosiers have come back from a 2-0 deficit.
L'HOMMEDIEU WINS SECOND WEEKLY AWARD
L'Hommedieu earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors for her performances against Penn State and Rutgers. The Hudson, Ohio native picked up 15 total saves as she earned the weekly honor for the second time after also receiving Freshman and Defensive Player of the Week accolades on Aug. 30. L'Hommedieu leads the Big Ten in saves with 72 and is 37th in the nation, including third-most amongst freshmen. In addition, she sits at 12th in IU history in single-season saves.
SPREADING THE WEALTH
• The Hoosiers have scored 17 goals on the season, surpassing last year's total of 11 and tying with 2014's season total.
• IU has seen goals from 11 different Hoosiers, the biggest distribution since the 2013 team saw goals from 11 different players.
• Redshirt sophomore Mykayla Brown leads the way with four goals, while sophomores Cassidy Blacha and Caroline Dreher each have a pair of scores.
• Four Hoosiers have netted their first career goals this year - Dreher (Aug. 26 vs. Butler), junior Kylie Kirk (Sept. 25 vs. Wisconsin), freshman Allison Jorden (Sept. 25 vs. Wisconsin) and Kilgore (Oct. 9 vs. Rutgers).
